Need A Foster Mare?
Home
Established by the late Pat Cash in 1979 who recognised the need for a professional service on which the equine industry has relied on heavily over the years. Formally based in Ireland, the company has relocated to the UK since 2006 and are now based near Lambourn, Oxfordshire.
With a herd of over 100 mares and more importantly 30 years combined experience with fostering orphan foals, CBS can offer a complete service. If you find yourself in a situation where you think you require our expertise then please don’t hesitate to contact our 24 hour emergency number for an immediate response. A member of our team will deliver the mare and handle the whole procedure, staying until complete. Once the mare and foal have bonded, the only tell tale sign that they aren’t biologically related is the hairy legs and coloured markings!
All mares are fully vaccinated and EVA / CEM tested and are handpicked for their temperament, our service guarantees 100% success rate. Your foal does not have to leave the premises as we deliver the mare and set up the fostering, staying until mare and foal have bonded. Alternatively, the fostering can be carried out at our Oxfordshire base under 24 hour care with our vets on emergency standby for foals requiring supervision or treatment.
CBS has provided mares to studs, veterinary practices and breeders for over 25 years. Our relocation has allowed many to breathe a sigh of relief heading into the foaling season. Liam O Rourke, manager of Dalham Hall is very relieved having worked closely with the family over the years “This is very welcome news for the bloodstock industry, the professionalism and experience of Clononeen Bloodstock Services is second to none and while few anticipate having to make that call, it is a welcome relief knowing the service is there.”
"We sadly lost one of our broodmares foaling and were put in touch with Clononeen Bloodstock Services by our vets, Lolita was the most wonderful Mum and a farm favourite. Due to competition commitments, we dropped the foal at their yard and they handled everything, he was very weak but they lifted him every 20 minutes to suck. Really, we couldn't have managed without them" Tina Cook, Gold Medalist Event Rider
"After a maiden mare rejected her foal, we made the decision to foster the colt, I called at 9.00am and had a mare delivered by 3.00pm that afternoon. An altogether outstanding service." Eric Cantillon, Herringswell Manor Stud & Plumpton Hall Stud
If you think you need a fostermare, please call our 24 hour emergency number with any questions you may have. If the foal has not nursed, then it will need veterinary attention immediately. Finding out later that the foal has not received enough colostrum puts the foal in great danger. Do milk out the mare and bottle feed the foal or have your vet stomach tube him, keeping him strong is vitally important.
